Dryden Kuser Natural Area

At roughly 1,500 feet above sea level, the Atlantic white cedar swamp located in Dryden Kuser Natural Area is thought to be the highest elevation swamp of its kind in the world.

Some of the oldest cedars being around 200 years old. Cored by Neil Pederson and team in 2002. Located within Highpoint State Park in New Jersey, Dryden Kuser Natural Area is composed of 850 acres.

 

The area was dedicated in 1965 as the first Natural Area in the State of New Jersey. It is named for State Senator Dryden Kuser, son of Anthony and Susie Dryden Kuser, who donated the land that became High Point State Park in 1923.
