This Oak is just one among the hundreds of amazing trees located on the property of the former Rockwood Hall Mansion. Rockwood Hall was a Gilded Age mansion located in Mount Pleasant, NY. Best known as the former home of William Rockefeller, brother of John D. Rockefeller.
At its peak, the property was 1,000 acres (400 ha) in size, and the mansion had 204 rooms, making it the second-largest private house in the US. The property changed hands several times throughout the 1900s until it was finally sold to NY State and it became included parkland in the Rockefeller State Park. In 1942, John D. Rockefeller ordered the demolition of the mansion. During the demolition, it's been noted that extra care was to be given to the trees and not to damage them.
