Charles Turner (1822-1873) was a farmer, merchant, and Texas ranger. Around the time that Texas was seceding from the United States, Turner, who was reluctant of the whole situation refused to turn in his hard-earned money for confederate notes, so instead, he buried his gold beneath this oak tree on his farm. After the Civil War, when Confederate notes were worthless, Turner returned to his farm and dug up this fortune. Using the money to help develop Fort Worth’s infrastructure.
